DEEP STATE centres around Max Easton (Mark Strong), an ex-spy whose past comes back to haunt him as he returns to the field to avenge the death of his son Harry (Joe Dempsie). Max soon discovers there is much more at stake as he finds himself at the heart of a covert intelligence war, and immersed in a widespread conspiracy to profit from the spread of chaos in the Middle East. Max enters into a very dangerous game as powerful corporations show that they are willing to do anything to preserve their reputation and bury their secrets.

    A Kind of Warfare: In Washington, we meet the CIA's Amanda Jones. Max, now in Beirut, doesn't know who to trust after speaking to Leyla, a member of The Section team there. (S1, Ep2)

    The Man Came Around: When Amanda Jones arrives in London she brings the full force of CIA dissatisfaction to bear on White, who struggles to retain control. (S1, Ep3)

    Reunion: Anna and her brother struggle to protect her daughters in France. Alexander Said, who led the team in Tehran, arrives in London, but The Section head is in no mood for forgiveness.

    Merger: Leyla investigates links between Iran and the US. In France, White and his second-in-command Khalid Walker use Anna to leverage pressure on Max. (S1, Ep5)
